Ruukki signs two more infrastructure constructi...
Press release 1 December 2009
The autumn has seen an upswing in infrastructure construction. Ruukki
has already signed contracts regarding deliveries for more than ten
bridges and success on this front continues with the signing of two
new contracts. Ruukki has signed an agreement concerning the steel
structure contract and delivery of the foundation piles for the
Särkijärvi bridge in Tampere, Finland. Ruukki will also deliver
almost 6 kilometres of large diameter steel pipe piles fitted with
rock shoes for the foundations of more than 20 bridges in the highway
5 improvement project in Kuopio, Finland. In addition, Ruukki will
deliver a total of 15 kilometres of scaffolding piles for the
projects in Tampere and Kuopio. The orders are worth a total of
around EUR 4 million.
"The high degree of prefabrication of the structures in the steel
bridge solution and delivery accuracy of cut-to-size piles will
reduce welding work at the site. This in turn will shorten
construction time and thus speed up completion of the entire
project," says managing director Sami Rantala from the engineering
office of Insinööritoimisto Seppo Rantala Oy, which is Ruukki's
customer in both projects. The steel structures will be made at
Ruukki's plant in Ylivieska, the steel pipe piles in Oulainen and the
scaffolding piles in Pulkkila, Finland.
The customer also benefits from cost savings in these demanding
bridge projects by sourcing the entire manufacturing chain - from raw
materials and fabrication to installation - from one partner.
Ruukki has a strong presence in transport infrastructure construction
in the Nordic countries. During the autumn, Ruukki has signed
contracts worth around EUR 20 million for bridge projects, including
these latest contracts.
