TRINITY MIRROR plc: APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE
Trinity Mirror plc, the UK's largest newspaper publisher, today announces the
appointment of Sly Bailey as Chief Executive of Trinity Mirror plc with effect
from 3rd February 2003. She replaces Philip Graf who announced on 24th September
2002 his intention to stand down from Trinity Mirror.
Sly Bailey, 40, joins Trinity Mirror from IPC Media Ltd, where she has been
Chief Executive since December 1999. She successfully led discussions with AOL

publishing division of AOL Time Warner, in July 2001 for £1.15bn - the largest
ever transatlantic media deal. She was also a member of the management team that
led the buyout of IPC Media for £860m in January 1998. Sly joined IPC Media Ltd
in 1989 as head of Divisional Classified Advertising Sales, joining the Board in
1994 as Advertising Director before being appointed Managing Director of IPC tx,
the TV listings division, in 1997. Prior to joining IPC Media, she worked in
advertising sales management positions at The Guardian and The Independent. She
has been a non-executive director of Littlewoods PLC.
Sir Victor Blank, Chairman of Trinity Mirror plc, commented:
'The appointment of Sly is tremendous for Trinity Mirror. She has a proven track
record in building businesses and brands, excellent media credentials and will

a quality team in the process of re-invigorating the Trinity Mirror businesses.
We are very much looking forward to having her as part of the team and warmly
welcome her to the Group.'
Sly Bailey commented:
'The Chief Executive role at Trinity Mirror is one of the key positions in UK
media. Trinity Mirror is an ambitious and successful company with strong

the most powerful brands in national and regional newspapers.'
