TRINITY MIRROR PLC
Re: Management restructure and Board changes
The Board is creating a new senior executive role within the Group. Reporting
to Group Chief Executive Philip Graf, the role will encompass strategic and
operational responsibility for all of Trinity Mirror's newspapers. The role
includes responsibility for the development of the Group's newspapers and the
assets that underpin them. In addition, it will encourage the development of
best practices between the national and regional businesses. The appointment
will also allow Philip Graf to focus on accelerating the development of the
Group's strategy.
The Group is agreeing final terms with the individual it has chosen to fill
the role and will make an announcement shortly. As part of this management
change, Mark Haysom, Regional Director, Midlands, South Wales and Southern
England has been promoted to Managing Director, National Newspapers and will
manage the national newspaper business. Stephen Parker, Regional Director,
North will become Managing Director, Regional Newspapers and take full
responsibility for the regional and local newspaper business. Both Mark
Haysom and Stephen Parker will report directly to the new appointee.
With these new appointments Mike Masters, Group Managing Director, Publishing
UK and Ireland will be resigning as a Director of the Company, taking early
retirement at the end of December 2000. Roger Eastoe, Group Managing
Director, National and Sports Division has chosen to resign as a director of
the company. He will be pursuing a number of business opportunities and will
leave the company at the end of September.
Philip Graf, Chief Executive, commented:
'This new role marks an important evolution in the development of our senior
management team, bringing a dedicated strategic and operational focus to this
key area of our business for the first time.
I would also like to thank Mike for the key role he has played in the success
of Trinity over many years and for his help and unstinting commitment latterly
at Trinity Mirror, and to Roger for his 25 years of outstanding work on the
National Titles and the role he has played in the successful rejuvenation of
The Mirror over the last four years.'
