Trinity Mirror PLC
1 December 1999
APPOINTMENT OF NEW GROUP FINANCE DIRECTOR
The Board of Trinity Mirror plc ('Trinity Mirror'), the largest newspaper
publisher in the UK, today announces that it has appointed Margaret Ewing to
the Board as Group Finance Director, effective from January 2000. She takes
responsibility for the finance role from John Allwood, Deputy Group Chief
Executive and Finance Director since the merger of Trinity plc and Mirror
Group PLC in September 1999. John Allwood remains Deputy Group Chief Executive
and will become Chief Operating Officer.
Margaret Ewing (44) joined Deloitte & Touche in January 1986, becoming a
partner in the firm's London Corporate Finance department in April 1987. She
is Partner in Charge of the firm's UK Transaction Services division and has
led Deloitte & Touche's involvement in a number of the largest and most
complex European and global take-overs and mergers by UK corporates.
The Board also announces that Cornel Riklin, currently Group Managing Director
- Operations and Interactive Services, has decided to resign from the Group
with effect from Friday 3 December. Following Cornel's departure John Allwood
will, in addition to his role as Deputy Chief Executive, also assume
responsibility for Group Operations and will take charge of the ongoing
integration of the Trinity and Mirror businesses.
Philip Graf, chief executive, commented:
'I am delighted to have been able to attract such an experienced financial
mind to the Board. Margaret's experience will add a valuable resource at this
senior level. Her appointment gives John more time to support me in his role
as my deputy, with a specific focus on the operational and integration issues
arising out of the merger. We are sorry to see Cornel leave and would like to
thank him for his considerable contribution to the Group over the last six
years in particular in the areas of streamlining operations and building the
emerging New Media business. We wish him well in his new endeavours.'
