Re: Board Appointment
Trinity Mirror plc ('Trinity Mirror' or 'The Group'), the UK's largest
newspaper publisher, announced today the appointment of Joe Sinyor to the
Board as Chief Executive, Newspapers. He will take up his position as an
executive director following conclusion of his contractual negotiations with
Sony United Kingdom Limited.
Reporting to Group Chief Executive Philip Graf, Joe Sinyor will assume
strategic and operational responsibility for all of Trinity Mirror's
newspaper operations. This is a new executive role created by the Group to
provide a dedicated strategic resource responsible for the development of its
newspapers and the assets that underpin them. In addition, Joe will oversee
the development of best practices between the national and regional
businesses.
Joe Sinyor (43) joined Sony United Kingdom Limited in 1998 as Managing
Director. In this role he was responsible for £2.2 billion of turnover and in
particular a primary focus on the consumer electronics business. In a mid
1999 reorganisation, Joe was also appointed Head of Sony's Personal Audio
business for Europe. Prior to Sony, Joe was Managing Director of Dillons, the
bookseller (from 1994-1998), and Group Chief Executive of jeans company Pepe
Group plc (from 1990-1993). He is also a non-executive director of Channel 4.

Notes to Editors:
- Prior to Pepe Group plc, Joe spent 5 years at McKinsey & Company
(1985-1990) where he was responsible for leading McKinsey and its client
engagement team in the development and implementation of solutions to
specific issues.
- From 1983-1985 Joe was a corporate finance executive at J. Henry
Schroder Wagg & Company.
- Born in 1957 Joe was educated at Manchester Grammar School. He received a
BA (Hons) Law from Jesus College, Cambridge. He completed his articles with
Nabarro Nathanson following which he took an MBA at the London Business
School.
