CBE in New Year's Honours List
Real Estate Investors plc (AIM : RLE), the West Midlands based property
company, is delighted to announce its Chief Executive, Paul Bassi, has been
awarded a CBE in the New Year's Honours List announced on 31 December 2009.
Mr Bassi has been given the Honour in recognition for his services to business
and to the community in the West Midlands.
Mr Bassi is the current President of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and his
previous roles include Regional Chairman for Coutts Bank (West Midlands). Mr
Bassi is also Chairman of Bond Wolfe and Bigwood Chartered Surveyors and a
Director of Birmingham Hippodrome.
In addition to his commercial interests, Mr Bassi is an active supporter of a
number of charitable, cultural and community organisations. Mr Bassi is
currently High Sheriff for the County of West Midlands for 2009/2010 and was
appointed Deputy Lieutenant for County of West Midlands in 2008. In January
2009, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Birmingham City University. In
2003 Mr Bassi was awarded the Price Waterhouse Cooper Entrepreneur of the Year
award, in 2005 he was the youngest ever recipient of the Lloyds TSB (Central
England) Life Time Achievement Award, and in 1999 he chaired the historic
twinning of Sandwell and Amritsar. In 2007, he formed the Bond Wolfe Charitable
Trust that raises funds for worthy local causes, regardless of caste, colour,
creed, age, sex, religion or disability.
Paul Bassi said:
"I am delighted to receive this Honour. This recognises the support I have
received from my family, the efforts of all my colleagues and staff within the
business and the various organisations that I have worked with. I have always
strongly believed that business has a responsibility to its community as well as
its clients, staff and shareholders."
Mr Bassi was born in Birmingham, of Sikh Punjabi origin, and is married with 3
children.
