Macalder Tailings Project: Submission of Mining Licence Application and Update
15 August 2012
Red Rock Resources Plc ("Red Rock" or the "Company"), an exploration and mining company with a producing gold mine in Colombia, advanced gold exploration in Kenya and iron ore interests in Greenland, reports the submission of an application for a Mining Lease within the area of its Migori Project in south west Kenya, made yesterday.
Mining Lease Application ("MLA")
The Company, through its local affiliate Mid Migori Mining Company Limited, has submitted an Application for a Mining Lease covering the Macalder Tailings Reprocessing Project ("MTRP"). The Macalder tailings consist of 1.3m tonnes of JORC Measured Resource at a grade of 1.65 grams per tonne Au. The tailings derive from mining operations from the Macalder copper-gold mine that was operated until the 1960s.
As part of the MLA, the Company is currently completing an environmental impact assessment ("EIA"), which includes community consultations to gauge the opinions, concerns, and expectations of those affected by the MTRP. The EIA is expected to be completed later this year.
Red Rock Chairman Andrew Bell states: "The submission of our first Mining Lease Application in Kenya is an important milestone and demonstrates the progress that is being made. We look forward to engaging with the local community and all stakeholders in order to take the project forward to construction and commissioning."
