G J A van de Aast, a director of Reed International P.L.C., purchased 4,500
Elsevier NV ordinary shares at EUR 14.37p per share on 19 March 2001.
Following this purchase, Mr van de Aast holds 4,500 ordinary shares in
Elsevier NV.
