Shanks Group plc - First Quarter Statement
Reporting to shareholders at the Company's Annual General Meeting in Glasgow
today (27 July) the retiring Group Chairman Ian Clubb will say:
'I am pleased to confirm that trading in the first quarter of 2006/7 has been in
line with our expectations. On the last day of the quarter, 30 June 2006, the
Group announced the acquisition of Smink Beheer BV for a consideration of €86m
(€63m net of cash in the acquired company). Very shortly thereafter waste
management and recycling activities in Scotland and East London were acquired
from John W Hannay & Co Limited for a cash consideration of £8.8m These
transactions are in line with our strategy to grow the Group's core activities
both in the UK and in the Benelux countries.
I have greatly enjoyed acting as your Chairman and extend to Adrian Auer, who
succeeds me from today, best wishes for the future.'
