                      Shanks Group plc Board Appointment

The Board of waste management company Shanks Group plc today announces the
appointment of a new Executive Director.

Mr Jim Meredith (40), joins the Shanks Board from 1 November 2000.

For the past seven years he has been Managing Director of Shanks Waste
Services Limited, the Group's largest UK company which collects and manages
household, commercial and industrial wastes. Mr Meredith will continue in this
role as a member of the Shanks Group plc Board.
