                      Shanks Group plc Board Appointment




The Board of waste management company Shanks Group plc today announces the
appointment of a new Non-Executive Director.

Mr Philippe Delaunois (59) a Belgian National, was until recently chief
executive of steel producer Cockerill Sambre, joins the Shanks Board from 30
May 2001.
