Shanks Group plc  -  First Quarter Update

Reporting to shareholders at the Company's Annual General Meeting in Glasgow
today (27 July) Group Chairman Gordon Waddell said the Shanks Board was
pleased with the Netherlands acquisition completed at the end of last year. He
added:'Trading in the first quarter of the 2000/2001 financial year has been
in line with expectations of significant growth for the enlarged Group.'
