COMPLETION OF DISPOSAL OF UK LANDFILL AND RELATED POWER OPERATIONS

Shanks is pleased to announce that, following the recent consent of ELWA and the
ELWA Funders, and also the approval of Shareholders at the Extraordinary General
Meeting held on 23 June 2004, the disposal of its UK landfill and related power
operations has now completed.

Terms used in this announcement have the same meaning as in the circular sent to
Shareholders dated 4 June 2004.
