Shanks Formalises New Corporate Identity

Following shareholder support for a company special resolution at the Annual
General Meeting of Shanks & McEwan Group PLC in Glasgow today, (Thursday), the
name of the company has now been formally changed to Shanks Group plc.

Earlier, at the AGM, Group Chairman Mr Gordon Waddell reported that the first
quarter's trading in the 1999/2000 financial year..'has been in line with our
expectations.'
