LEADING WASTE INDUSTRY EXECUTIVE JOINS SHANKS AS

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Shanks Group plc, Europe's largest listed independent waste management business, announces that Jacques Petry, former Chairman and Chief Executive of SITA and Suez Environnement, will join its Board as a Non-executive Director with effect from 30 September 2010.  He will become a member of the Group's Audit, Remuneration and Nomination Committees.

Jacques Petry was Chairman and CEO of SITA from 1996 before becoming the first Chairman and CEO of parent company Suez Environnement, one of the world's leading water and waste management groups, in 2001. In 2005, he became CEO of Sodexo Continental Europe and South America.  Since 2007 he has been advising corporate and financial sponsors, initially as Global Head, RBS' Environmental Services Sector and more recently as an independent consultant, with regards to Infrastructure and Environmental Services sector investments worldwide. In December 2009 he was appointed a Non-executive Director of Idex SA, a French energy and facility management company.

He has extensive Non-executive experience, and has been a Non-executive Director on the Board of various listed companies such as Northumbrian Water (UK), United Water (USA), Agbar (Spain), and Elyo (France).
