New contract awarded to Shanks

Shanks Waste Services Limited, part of Shanks Group plc, has been awarded a
£12.2 million contract to remove clay and contaminated soil from tunnelling and
station construction activities associated with the Channel Tunnel Rail Link
(CTRL).

The Shanks subcontract from the Kier Nuttall joint venture involves haulage of
material, in up to two train-loads per day, to the company's rail-linked
landfill at Calvert, Buckinghamshire, where some of the material will be
utilised for site engineering. Work starting in June 2002 is expected to be
completed by August 2004.
