RENISHAW plc ('Renishaw' or the 'Company')
Renishaw announces that it has commenced legal proceedings in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against Tesa SA and Hexagon Metrology, Inc., each part of the Hexagon Metrology group of Hexagon AB, a Swedish company.
Renishaw claims that certain probing products manufactured by Tesa SA and distributed in the United States by Hexagon Metrology, Inc., including the TESASTAR-mp probe system, infringe Renishaw's U.S. Patents Nos. 5505005, 6012230 and 5327657.
As part of this legal action, Renishaw has also requested a preliminary injunction to restrain Hexagon's infringement, prior to the full trial, which is a matter for the court's discretion. It is estimated that the litigation may take several years to reach a final decision.
Renishaw invests heavily in the research and development of new products and protecting intellectual property rights by way of patents and proprietary processes. As a matter of policy Renishaw takes action for alleged patent infringements where appropriate. In this case, it has decided that these proceedings against the Hexagon Metrology group, a large OEM customer, are in the Company's best interests.
