Rio Tinto announces that Simon Thompson, who joined the Boards of Rio Tinto plc and Rio Tinto Limited on 1 April 2014 as a non-executive director, has been appointed a member of the Remuneration Committee with immediate effect.

This announcement is made pursuant to Listing Rule 9.6.11R.
