APPOINTMENT OF GUY ELLIOTT

ROYAL DUTCH SHELL BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Rio Tinto announces that Guy Elliott, chief financial officer of Rio Tinto plc and Rio Tinto Limited, will join Royal Dutch Shell's Board as a non executive director and member of the Audit Committee, with effect from 1 September 2010. 

This announcement is made pursuant to Listing Rule 9.6.14R.
