APPOINTMENT OF ANDREW GOULD TO

BG GROUP PLC BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Rio Tinto announces that Andrew Gould, senior independent director and chairman of the Remuneration Committee of Rio Tinto plc and Rio Tinto Limited, will join the Board of BG Group plc as a non executive director with effect from 1 June 2011. 

This announcement is made pursuant to Listing Rule 9.6.14R.
