SHARE INTERESTS OF DIRECTORS AND PERSONS DISCHARGING MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Rio Tinto plc was notified today that, on 5 October 2006 in New York, the
following Directors and/or persons discharging managerial responsibility 
('PDMRs') had completed transactions under the Rio Tinto America Savings Plan,
to acquire or dispose of units in the Rio Tinto plc Stock Fund.  Each unit
represents one ADR and each ADR represents four Ordinary shares of 10p each in
Rio Tinto plc.  These are non-discretionary transactions.

Following this notification the total holding of ordinary shares of 10p

Rio Tinto Employee Share Ownership Trust.
