Rio Tinto plc announces that it transferred to participants in its employee share schemes the following number of its ordinary shares of 10p each, which were previously held as treasury shares.

Date of transfer:	4 May 2011
Number of ordinary shares transferred:	8,101
Highest transfer price per share:	£10.979
Lowest transfer price per share:	£10.979

In the announcement made on 12 April 2011 the number of shares held in treasury and the total number of ordinary shares in issue was incorrectly stated by 36 shares.

The position has now been corrected so that as at today's date, Rio Tinto plc holds 15,195,724 ordinary shares as treasury shares. The total number of ordinary shares in issue (excluding shares held as treasury shares) is 1,507,687,597.
