Lord Rothschild, a director of RIT Capital Partners plc ('RITCP'), today
advised the Company that he purchased a beneficial interest in 8,000 RITCP
ordinary shares on 29 May 2001 at 454p per share. Following this purchase,
Lord Rothschild's interests in RITCP ordinary shares is as follows:

19,085,585 shares with a beneficial interest

6,638,411 shares with a non-beneficial interest
