RM APPOINTED AS ICT SUPPLIER FOR THE TESCO COMPUTERS FOR SCHOOLS 2000 PROJECT
RM plc, the leading supplier of ICT to UK education, is delighted to announce
that it is the official computer equipment supplier for Tesco Computers for
Schools 2000.
Now in its eighth successful year, and approaching its ninth, Tesco Computers
for Schools has delivered an astounding 38,700 computers and an additional
263,000 computer items. Since 1992, this totals an amazing £54.4 million
worth of computer equipment received by over 20,000 schools throughout the UK.
Richard Girling, Chief Executive of RM plc, commented: 'This is an excellent
partnership for RM. The Tesco Computers for Schools programme has given
computer equipment to many schools over the years and we are delighted to be a
part of it. Through this promotion schools will be able to supplement their
existing ICT with up-to-date, industry standard products, including Apple
computers, from a supplier committed to education. As we begin the new
Millennium our children deserve to have the equipment and technology which
will help keep them at the forefront of the Information Age.'
Richard Brasher, Director of Marketing Operations at Tesco, said: 'In 1992
Tesco Computers for Schools was the first national schools voucher scheme in
the UK. In eight years our pioneering scheme has become the longest running
initiative of its kind and the most highly respected cause-related marketing
activity and is integral to schools building their ICT facilities. During
this time we have had a very successful working relationship with Xemplar
acting as equipment supplier to the scheme.
'However, as we move into the Millennium we would like to offer schools the
greatest range of state-of-the-art computer equipment and ICT products for the
classroom, building upon those offered in the 1999 catalogue. We feel that
the combination of Tesco's and RM's strengths will provide this. I am
delighted that Tesco Computers for Schools 2000, with RM's help, will continue
to see thousands more pupils benefit from the scheme.'
Professor Stephen Heppell, Director of Ultralab at Anglia Polytechnic
University, said: 'I'm delighted that Tesco Computers for Schools is entering
its ninth year. The scheme continues to support schools with the very best
hardware, whilst combining traditional British software titles with exciting
and innovative new products. As it stands, this is the best project of its
kind in the world and it improves year on year.'
