RM selected by DfES to develop online teacher training
courses
RM plc, the UK's leading supplier of ICT software, systems and services, has
been chosen by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) to develop and
pilot online teacher training courses. The courses, which are intended to help
literacy, numeracy and science teachers use ICT more effectively in their
teaching, will be developed by RM's wholly owned subsidiary 3T Productions
Ltd. The development contract will be worth £1.4m to 3T Productions over 5
months.
The DfES' online teacher training programme builds on experience gained from
the major lottery-funded (NOF) initiative to provide ICT training for all
teachers. 3T Productions has considerable expertise in developing teacher
training and self-assessment materials, along with a strong track record of
working with the DfES and associated government agencies. RM plc, through the
Learning Schools Programme, has experience of operating and supporting a large
teacher training programme.
Development of the materials has been underway and the initial launch of the
pilot will be on 8th April.
RM's Chief Executive Tim Pearson said:
'This project brings together 3T's interactive design and development
capabilities and the experience RM gained from the NOF teacher training
initiative. It also builds on the immensely strong understanding of teaching
and learning that characterises both organisations. I'm pleased that the DfES
is continuing to drive forward its vision of using ICT to transform education.'
Schools Minister Catherine Ashton said:
'We are committed to providing teachers with the materials and training they
need to use ICT to improve standards of subject teaching and learning. This
initiative is an example of how, working in partnership with the private
sector, we can add value to teachers' working lives.'

Notes to editors
3T Productions was acquired by RM plc in March 2000 and is a leading
interactive design company concentrating almost entirely on developing
educational multimedia materials. Major clients include leading education
publishers and government departments and agencies. 3T Productions operated
independently for 18 years prior to its acquisition by RM.
RM is an approved ICT training provider to the New Opportunities Fund ICT
training initiative. More than one quarter of the UK's teachers have signed up
to the Learning Schools Programme (LSP) ICT training service, a joint venture
between RM plc and the Open University.
