RM appointed preferred bidder for managed learning and teaching ICT service
contract in South Lanarkshire
RM plc, the UK's leading supplier of ICT and services to education, has been
appointed preferred bidder to provide a major managed ICT service to South
Lanarkshire Council. Under the seven-year contract RM will be responsible for
delivering and managing the ICT learning and teaching environment, which will
include learning software, computer systems, local area networking, and WAN
connectivity, to all South Lanarkshire's learning establishments. The contract
has been subject to extensive competitive tendering and, as preferred bidder, RM
will now enter into final detailed negotiations.
RM has successfully provided ICT products and services to learning
establishments in South Lanarkshire Council for four and a half years. This new
contract will see RM providing a unified managed network for primary and special
needs schools, secondary schools, libraries and other learning centres across
South Lanarkshire. The network will be based on RM's Community Connect 3
product family, with support and management provided out of RM's Bellshill
office.
Commenting on the contract, Tim Pearson, CEO of RM, said:
'RM has been providing ICT services to education in South Lanarkshire for many
years - this project will give us the opportunity to continue and develop that
partnership. I'm particularly pleased that South Lanarkshire Council is taking
the step of transferring the management of the whole unified network to RM,
whilst they concentrate on improving learning and teaching. It's a strong
endorsement of the service we've delivered to date and a significant opportunity
to assist the Council in further raising educational standards.
'RM reported in November that we were engaged in a number of strategic project
bids, and South Lanarkshire is the latest in a number of wins we've announced
recently. Along with those other announced contracts, South Lanarkshire
provides further visibility of long-term revenues for RM.'

Notes to Editors:
1. The new contract, which will run for seven years with the option of a
three year extension, replaces RM's existing contracts with South
Lanarkshire Council. RM's existing relationship with South Lanarkshire
Council is worth approximately £4.5 million per year, it is anticipated
that the new contract will be of similar value.
2. The unified network service delivered to South Lanarkshire will be used
by 21 secondary schools, 124 primary schools, 25 libraries and various
other education establishments.
