RM confirms £37.5 million Scottish Schools Digital Network (SSDN) contract
RM plc, the UK's leading supplier of information and communications technology
(ICT) and other services to education, confirms that it has signed a £37.5
million, five year contract with the Scottish Executive to provide a national
education intranet. The Group announced on the 1st July 2005 that it had been
appointed preferred bidder for the contract.
Announcing the contract today at the Scottish Learning Festival, Peter Peacock,
Scottish Executive Education Minister, said:
'In schools across Scotland I have seen at first-hand how technology is
transforming learning and teaching. I am determined to see that continue, which
means we must maintain our investment in technology as it advances and presents
new and exciting opportunities.
'This project is a hugely exciting development for Scottish education and one
which sees Scotland leading the world.'
Commenting on the contract award, Tim Pearson, CEO of RM, said:
'The SSDN project is genuinely innovative; the Scottish Executive's vision is to
link every school, every teacher and every pupil through a single intranet
accessible from any computer. We're committed to working closely with the
Scottish Executive and with Learning and Teaching Scotland, to bring this vision
to reality - and to make it deliver real education benefits for Scotland's
800,000 pupils and teachers.
'In the last three years RM has won eight major education projects, each worth
more than £15 million. It's a track record I'm proud of and makes us the most
experienced provider of large-scale educational ICT solutions.'
