              RM PLC APPOINTS NEW NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR


The Board of RM plc is pleased to announce that Sherry Coutu has been
appointed a non-executive director effective 18th October 1999.

Sherry Coutu (35) is the founder and Chairman of Interactive Investor
International (iii).  iii, launched in October 1995, is a leading UK-based
Internet financial portal that aims to provide individuals with a wide variety
of financial products and services online

Prior to founding Interactive Investor Sherry was the founder and Managing
Director of Internet Securities (from 1993-1994), which provides emerging
markets securities information research via the internet. Previously Sherry
was the Director of Strategy for Bell Cablemedia during the period when the
company grew from 45 to 450 employees and floated on NASDAQ (1993). Sherry was
born in Canada and attended the University of British Columbia, she then did
an MSC at the London School of Economics and later on an MBA at Harvard.

Commenting today, Richard Girling, Chief Executive said, 'I am delighted to
welcome Sherry to the Board. Her breadth and depth of experience in starting
and growing internet businesses will bring added strength and perspective to
the Board and to the Group as a whole.

RM is already addressing the opportunities of bringing added value internet
services to the education market and Sherry's appointment will help us drive
