ROLLS-ROYCE SIGNS $50 MILLION AZERBAIJAN OIL DEAL
Rolls-Royce plc has gained a key order worth over $50 million for Azerbaijan's
burgeoning oil and gas sector. It will supply five RB211 powered Coberra 6562
generator sets and allied equipment, including Rolls-Royce En-Tronic control
equipment, for the first phase in a major development of three offshore oil and
gas fields in the Caspian Sea. Equipment for the Azerbaijan International
Operating Company (AIOC), will be delivered during the fourth quarter of 2002
and the first quarter of 2003.
The contract includes an option to provide an additional Coberra power
generation set and two additional Coberra mechanical drive units. If exercised,
this option would bring the total number of units for Phase 1 of the development
project to eight.
The order is the first within an agreement that Rolls-Royce and BP, the
designated operator of the development, signed in 2000. BP is the operator in
the international consortium of oil companies that comprise AIOC.
Tom Curley, President of the Rolls-Royce Energy business, said: ''Winning the
first phase of this project provides us with a significant springboard into the
oil-rich and strategically important Caspian region.
'Of special significance is the fact that this is the first order we have won
under our Rotating Equipment initiative with BP. This agreement was signed to
provide maximum equipment reliability and life-cycle cost performance for BP and
new product and aftermarket business opportunities for Rolls-Royce'.
Three Rolls-Royce Coberra 6562 generator sets will provide power for the
existing Sangachal on-shore oil processing facility. Two similar units will
provide power for the DQ1 (drilling quarters) platform in the Caspian Sea.
The Rolls-Royce gas turbine sets will be engineered, packaged and tested at the
company's Liverpool, UK, facilities. The En-Tronic control panels will be
manufactured at the company's site in Hengelo, The Netherlands.
