$70m Cathay Pacific Trent Engine Order Won

Rolls-Royce PLC 21 December 1999 ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $70M CATHAY PACIFIC TRENT ENGINE ORDER Rolls-Royce plc, the civil aerospace, defence, marine and energy group, has won a $70 million order from Cathay Pacific for Trent 700 engines for three more Airbus Industrie A330 aircraft. It brings the airline's fleet of Rolls-Royce powered A330s to 15 firm aircraft, of which 12 are already in service, with options for nine more. Including the airline's latest order, Rolls-Royce has secured almost 40 per cent of the worldwide market on the A330, with orders for 147 firm and option aircraft. Hong Kong based Cathay Pacific, which was also a launch customer for the Trent 700 on the Airbus A330, will take delivery of its further three aircraft in the first quarter of 2001, to strengthen its regional network. John Cheffins, Managing Director - Airlines said; 'This is welcome news from Cathay Pacific and a further endorsement for the Trent 700, which has entered service with nine new customers this year.' Cathay Pacific's fleet also includes 11 Trent 800 powered Boeing 777s with nine more aircraft on option, and 21 RB211-524 powered Boeing 747 aircraft for its passenger and freighter operations, with eight more aircraft on option. This latest order builds upon the long-term relationship between Rolls-Royce and Cathay Pacific which has operated RB211 engines since 1974. The relationship with Rolls-Royce also extends to the aero engine repair and overhaul business with Hong Kong Aero Engine Services Limited (HAESL), a joint venture created in 1995 by Rolls-Royce and Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company (HAECO), an associate company of Cathay Pacific. HAESL offers repair and overhaul of Trent, RB211 and V2500 engines for customers across the Asia Pacific region.
