ACQUISITION EXPANDS ROLLS-ROYCE MARINE CAPABILITY
Rolls-Royce plc, the world leader in marine power systems, has further
expanded its capabilities with the acquisition of German company INTERING for
£2 millionGmbH for an undisclosed sum.
Rolls-Royce is now the only company able to offer tank stabilisers, through
the INTERING purchase, and fin stabilisers, separately or as a combined
package.
Saul Lanyado, President - Marine for Rolls-Royce, said: 'This acquisition
makes a good strategic fit with our existing capability, allowing us to become
a market leader in ship stabiliser equipment, providing a unique, tailored
service to the commercial and naval marine markets.
'We can offer a broader range of stabiliser solutions than our competitors,
using our control systems capabilities to maximise effectiveness. We intend to
develop the INTERING business, using the global network of Rolls-Royce sales
and marketing teams to increase sales success.'
Hamburg-based INTERING was formed in 1969 and employs 30 people. Its products
are in service with more than 600 ships and its sales last year were £2.9
million. As well as tank stabilisers, its portfolio includes:
* Anti-heeling stabilisers, designed to work while ships are stationary,
securing horizontal ramps for fast loading and discharging.
* The INTERING Stability Test System, a stability measuring system
improving both safety and payload, which won the Seatrade Award for
Innovation in 1994.
* The INTERING Parametric Roll Preventer, launched last year for large
container and cruise vessels, protecting cargo and passengers.
