ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $200 MILLION IN ORDERS FROM AMERICAN AIRLINES AND AMERICAN
EAGLE
Rolls-Royce plc, the aerospace, defence, marine and energy company, has won
engine orders worth a total of $200 million to power aircraft ordered by
American Airlines and its regional airline division, American Eagle.
Rolls-Royce will provide Trent 800 engines worth $168 million for six new
Boeing 777s for American Airlines and AE 3007 engines worth $32 million for
six Embraer ERJ 135 regional jets for American Eagle.
With this latest order, American Airlines will operate a total of 43 Trent
800-powered 777s, 122 RB211-535-powered Boeing 757s and 75 Tay-powered Fokker
100s. American Eagle has firm and option orders for 277 ERJ 145 and ERJ 135
aircraft, both powered by the AE 3007. American Airlines and American Eagle
currently operate a fleet of more than 260 Rolls-Royce powered aircraft.
Deliveries of the six new 777s will take place in late 2001 and early 2002,
while the six ERJ 135s, which are options now converted to firm orders, will
be delivered in 2002.
John Cheffins, Rolls-Royce Managing Director, Airlines, said: 'This order
extends a relationship with American Airlines, one of our largest global
customers. These engines will continue to improve the quality and flexibility
of its long-haul and regional fleet.'
The orders bring the total value of business announced by Rolls-Royce this
year to more than $8.3 billion.
Rolls-Royce and American Airlines are also partnered in a joint venture engine
repair company, Texas Aero Engine Services L.L.C., which services the Trent
800, RB211-535 and the Tay 650.
