Contract Awarded for Airbus Engines - $50 million

ROLLS-ROYCE PLC 22 October 1999 ROLLS-ROYCE SHARES IN AMERICA WEST ENGINE ORDER Rolls-Royce announced today that it had won a share in an order from America West for engines to power 12 Airbus Industrie single-aisle aircraft. The value of the business to Rolls-Royce is around $50 million. Under the agreement, the airline will also receive options and purchase rights for 50 A320 family aircraft. Final selection will depend on airline requirements. America West has selected the V2500 engine produced by the International Aero Engines consortium (IAE), in which Rolls-Royce is a leading shareholder. Aircraft deliveries begin next year. Phoenix-based America West already operates 43 V2500-powered Airbus aircraft, having placed its first order with IAE in 1990. John Cheffins, Managing Director - Airlines at Rolls-Royce, said: 'Winning a repeat order with America West is a significant endorsement of the V2500. Operating in the extreme heat of Arizona demands the highest levels in reliable and durable equipment and we are delighted with this follow-on order.' IAE is a four nation partnership comprising Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney of the United States, the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and Germany's MTU Motoren-und-Turbinen-Union. V2500 engines, assembled in America and the UK, have more than 75 customers worldwide and programme sales exceeding $18 billion.
