Rolls-Royce PLC 27 July 2000 FARNBOROUGH 2000 ROLLS-ROYCE SHARES IN V2500 ENGINE SUCCESS WITH ORDERS WORTH US$110 MILLION Rolls-Royce plc has won engine business worth US$110 million as part of several new orders for V2500 engines, produced by International Aero Engines. Five customers of the 22,000lb-33,000lb thrust V2500 engine, powering Airbus Industrie A320 family aircraft, have announced additional aircraft to their fleets or firmed up options. Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (S.A.L.E), has added 11 single-aisle A320s to its fleet, making it one of IAE's largest customers, with more than 100 aircraft. British Airways, which entered service with V2500 powered A320s ten months ago, has firmed up options for five A320 family aircraft. In 1998, BA announced an order for 59 firm and up to 129 option A320s in the largest single order from one airline in IAE's history. Meanwhile, British Midland, the UK's second largest scheduled airline, has ordered an additional two A320s, bringing its total V2500-powered fleet to 23. Monarch, the UK-based charter operator, has also expanded its fleet with five new A321-200s. The aircraft will join three V2500-powered A321s already in service. Deliveries of the new aircraft will begin in the second half of 2002. In the US, America West, which already operates a mix of V2500-powered A319s and A320s, will add four additional A319s to its fleet with deliveries of the new aircraft scheduled in 2001. The V2500 engine combines industry leading technology from senior IAE shareholders Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney, the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Motoren- und Turbinen- Union Munchen GmbH. More than 580 V2500-powered aircraft have been delivered since the engine family entered service in 1989 and the fleet has accumulated more than 13 million flight hours.
