KHALIFA AIRWAYS SELECTS ROLLS-ROYCE TRENT POWERED A340
Algeria's Khalifa Airways has become the 11th customer for the Rolls-Royce
Trent 500 aero engine by placing a firm order for three A340-500 ultra
long-range airliners. The value of the engine business is approximately $120
million. The order brings firm and option aircraft to 127 and Trent 500
business to nearly $6 billion.
This order is part of a wider fleet acquisition announced by Khalifa Airways
for up to 18 Airbus aircraft of various types. Deliveries are scheduled to
begin in 2004.
At a special roll-out ceremony at Airbus Industrie headquarters in Toulouse
later today, the Trent 500 will be unveiled for the first time in public under
the wings of an A340-600 airliner. The engine is the sole powerplant available
for both growth versions of the A340.
