ROLLS-ROYCE SHARE OF UNITED V2500 ORDER WORTH $180M
United Airlines has selected V2500 engines for an additional 44 Airbus
Industrie A320 series aircraft with deliveries starting in 2002.
The business is worth around $180 million to Rolls-Royce, a senior shareholder
in the International Aero Engines (IAE) consortium which produces the V2500.
The announcement takes the total of V2500-powered airliners ordered by United
to 177.
United currently operates more than 100 aircraft with the V2500-A5 engine, the
fleet passing two million flying hours last year.
The V2500 combines industry-leading technologies from IAE's shareholders,
Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney, the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU
Aero Engines. More than 600 V2500-powered aircraft have been delivered to
date.
