ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $1.4 BILLION ORDER TO POWER NEXT GENERATION OF GULFSTREAM IV
AIRCRAFT
Rolls-Royce has been selected by Gulfstream to power the next generation of
its twin-engined GIV aircraft with an order worth up to $1.4 billion.
Upgraded Rolls-Royce Tay engines will power 150 of the new version GIV aircraft,
with an option for Rolls-Royce to supply engines for a further 150 of the
executive jets over the next ten years.
The contract continues a 42-year relationship between the two companies.
Rolls-Royce has been the only powerplant provider for the entire Gulfstream
fleet since it began operations in 1958 and has delivered more than 2,500
engines.
The announcement was made by Gulfstream President and COO Bill Boisture during
a ceremony at the company's headquarters in Savannah, Georgia, to mark the
production of the 100th GV and 400th GIV. The event was also attended by
Rolls-Royce Chief Executive, John Rose.
Mr Boisture said, 'After an intense competition, we have selected Rolls-Royce
to power the next version of our GIV. Its engines and our aircraft have
proven to be an unbeatable combination.'
Mr Rose added, 'Our partnership is unique in the aviation industry. We have
powered every Gulfstream model from GI to GV and I am pleased that Gulfstream
has demonstrated its continued confidence in Rolls-Royce by extending our
relationship into the next generation of GIVs.'
The improved Tay engine features a Full Authority Digital Engine Control
(FADEC) system and technology upgrades resulting in better operating
efficiency and enhanced fuel burn.
Rolls-Royce has now announced over $4 billion in new orders this year.
