Rolls-Royce PLC 26 July 2000 ROLLS-ROYCE WINS US$30 MILLION AE 3007 ORDER AS SICHUAN AIRLINES LAUNCHES EMBRAER REGIONAL JET IN CHINA At Farnborough 2000 today Rolls-Royce announced AE 3007 engine business worth up to US$30 million as Sichuan Airlines became the launch customer for Embraer RJ 145 regional jets in China. The airline has ordered five aircraft, all powered by Rolls-Royce AE 3007A1 engines. Captain Lan Xinguo, President of Sichuan Airlines, said at Farnborough: 'These Rolls-Royce powered aircraft will help our airline support economic development of China's western region'. Carmen Lloyd, President - Corporate and Regional Airlines, Rolls-Royce, said: 'We are pleased to add yet another airline to the rapidly growing list of operators that are flying the Rolls-Royce AE 3007-powered ERJ 145. With China now embracing the regional jet concept, this announcement is extremely significant for both Embraer and Rolls-Royce'. Established in 1986, Sichuan Airlines operates both passenger and cargo aircraft, and mail services. Its fleet of aircraft also includes Airbus A320s and A321s powered by International Aero Engines (IAE) V2500 engines. Rolls-Royce is a senior partner in the IAE consortium that produces the V2500. Background information: * Firm orders and options for the ERJ 145, ERJ 140 and ERJ 135 now total 1,381. * The 7,600lb thrust Rolls-Royce AE 3007 engine is the sole powerplant for the 50-passenger ERJ 145 aircraft, the 44-passenger ERJ 140 and the 37-passenger ERJ 135. * The Rolls-Royce AE 3007 engine fleet has accumulated more than 1.6 million flight hours since entering service in 1996. * Rolls-Royce AE 3007 turbofan engines have been designed to meet the stringent requirements of the regional airline industry, while also meeting the strict sound and emission limits required of tomorrow's regional airline fleet.
