ELECTROCOMPONENTS PLC ('The Company')





The Company has been informed on 6 September 2001 that Mr Richard B Butler a
Director of the Company has acquired 1,300 ordinary shares of 10p in the
Company on 6 September 2001.  The shares were acquired following the exercise
of options to acquire shares at an option price of 450p per share in
accordance with the rules of the Electrocomponents Savings-Related Share
Option Scheme.



The closing mid market value of 10p ordinary shares in Electrocomponents plc
on 5 September 2001 was 526p.
