ATA Group Plc
At the Annual General Meeting of the Company held on 27 April 2000
at 12 noon, all resolutions were duly passed by shareholders.
At the meeting Bill Douie, the Group Chairman, commented:
'I am pleased to confirm that trading in the first quarter of 2000
has continued the recovery shown in the second half of 1999 and
compares well with the corresponding period of last year, with all
divisions performing to expectation.
'Reorientating the contingency database and consultancy companies by
increasing their exposure towards sectors such as telecoms and
software, where skill shortages persist, continues to have a
beneficial effect on these companies and also has the effect of
reducing their exposure to manufacturing. Although as a company we
are little affected directly by problems in the motor industry, we
anticipate that sentiment in vulnerable areas will deteriorate to a
degree. Accordingly, we continue to place greater emphasis on non
motor business in our Midlands branches. Meanwhile, the Sloan
Shrago acquisition has bolstered the training business.
'I am encouraged by the progress in the development of our internet
recruitment site. We have finalised the design of phase one and we
expect to be in a position to go live by the end of the first half.
'The outlook for the remainder of 2000 continues satisfactorily with
demand in all recruitment areas remaining strong.'
