RYANAIR ANNOUCES NEW ROUTE FROM SHANNON TO PARIS AND HIGHER FARES FROM CORK
AND SHANNON
Ryanair Europe's largest low fares airline today (Wednesday, 16th January
2002), announced the launch of a new daily service from its Shannon base to
Paris with fares starting from only Euro39.99 one way (including tax). Ryanair
will commence flying its daily service from the 14th February to Paris
Beauvais thereby bringing the total number of routes Ryanair serves from
Shannon to four, which already includes daily services to Brussels and
Frankfurt, and its four times daily service to London Stansted.

Ryanair also confirmed that due to the unwarranted introduction of higher
airport charges by Aer Rianta at Cork and Shannon Airports, air fares at both
airports would rise. Airport charges are increasing by Euro1.00 per passenger
and this will be reflected in all Ryanair fares from today.
Announcing the new service today Ryanair's Commercial Director Michael Cawley
said:
'This is one of the few opportunities for Ryanair to get a zero airport charge
from Aer Rianta and limited for a period of only four years. Aer Rianta has
done its best to restrict growth at all its airports by offering completely
uncompetitive incentive schemes, which ignore the competitive reality at
similar airports throughout Europe. At a time when Irish tourism is facing
total collapse with its worst year for over twenty years Aer Rianta's clueless
response is to increase the charges at Cork and Shannon thereby giving rise to
increases in fares at both airports. Clearly, Aer Rianta's latest agenda is to
now actively discriminating against these airports by charging more than at
Dublin.
'The vast bulk of Ryanair's growth this year will be at its new European base
Frankfurt Hahn and from its London base at Stansted. However, in order to
further highlight the opportunities available to Irish tourism, we have
decided to launch this daily service from Shannon to Paris further bringing
low fares to those long deprived of them in the mid west and in addition
bringing many thousands of French visitors to the west of Ireland at a time
when they are most badly needed.'
