J Sainsbury plc announces Board Change

J Sainsbury plc announces today that Val Gooding, Non-Executive Director, will stand down from the Board at the Company's AGM on 13 July 2011. She has been appointed as Chairman of Premier Farnell PLC and due to her increased time commitments has decided to step down from the Board of J Sainsbury plc.

David Tyler, Chairman, J Sainsbury plc said "I would like to thank Val for the tremendous contribution she has made as a Non-Executive Director since January 2007. Her breadth of experience has been invaluable to the Board and I wish her every success as Chairman of Premier Farnell."

Val Gooding said, "I have thoroughly enjoyed my four and a half years on Sainsbury's Board and it is with some sadness that I have decided to step down due to my increased time commitments at Premier Farnell. It has been a pleasure to have been part of one of the UK's most successful retail turnarounds and I leave knowing that Sainsbury's is well positioned for further success in the future."
