J Sainsbury plc announces new Non-Executive Director
J Sainsbury plc today announces that Lady Susan Rice CBE will be joining the Board as a Non-Executive Director on 1 June 2013.
Susan is currently Managing Director, Lloyds Banking Group Scotland and was the first woman to head a UK clearing bank as Chairman and Chief Executive of Lloyds TSB Scotland plc. Prior to this, Susan held several senior roles at NatWest Bancorp in the USA.
Susan is a Non-Executive Director on the Court of the Bank of England, where she chairs the Audit & Risk Committee. She is also a Non-Executive Director of SSE plc (Scottish and Southern Energy), where she chairs the Remuneration Committee, and also of Big Society Capital. Susan is a frequent speaker on financial services, leadership and sustainability and chairs a UK-wide initiative to create professional standards for bankers - the Chartered Banker: Professional Standards Board.
Commenting on the appointment, David Tyler, Sainsbury's Chairman, said: "We are very pleased to welcome Susan to the Board of Sainsbury's. She has wide experience as a Non-Executive Director, and her career in retail banking is particularly relevant in light of today's announcement of the agreement to take full ownership of Sainsbury's Bank."
