New Non-Executive Directors for J Sainsbury plc
Sainsbury's has appointed two new non-executive directors to its Board. Bob
Stack (54), chief human resources officer of Cadbury Schweppes, will chair the
company's Remuneration Committee from the date of his appointment, and Gary
Hughes (42), group finance director of Emap, will join the Audit Committee and
become its chairman towards the end of 2005. Both will join the J Sainsbury plc
Board with effect from 1 January 2005.
Philip Hampton, chairman of Sainsbury's said, 'Bob and Gary are both very highly
regarded in their respective professional fields and have valuable experience in
consumer-facing industries. They have a breadth of skills which will complement
those of the existing team.'

Notes
Bob Stack joined Cadbury Beverages in the US in 1990 and joined the Cadbury
Schweppes Board in May 1996 as group human resources director. In March 2000 he
was appointed chief human resources officer and took on responsibility for
communication and external affairs in addition to HR.
Gary Hughes joined Emap in October 2000. Prior to this he was group finance
director of SMG plc, deputy finance director of Forte plc and held a number of
senior management positions with Guinness plc.
The Board of J Sainsbury plc is chaired by Philip Hampton. Executive directors
are Justin King, chief executive and Roger Matthews, finance director.
Non-executive directors are June de Moller, Jamie Dundas and Bridget Macaskill.
