J Sainsbury plc announces notification of major interests in shares

On 10 November Sainsbury's received notification that AXA S.A and its Group
companies were interested in 173,867,001 ordinary shares representing 10.21% of
the issued share capital.  These shares are represented by a beneficial interest
of 1,454,261 (0.09%) and a non-beneficial interest of 172,412,740 (10.13%), the
majority of which, 171,874,982 was held by AXA Financial, Inc on behalf of
Bernstein.

Later on 10 November Sainsbury's received a further notification that AXA S.A
and its Group companies were interested in 164,689,914 ordinary shares
representing 9.67% of the issued share capital.  These shares are represented by
a beneficial interest of 1,454,261 (0.09%) and a non-beneficial interest of
163,235,653 (9.59%), the majority of which, 162,695,027 was held by AXA
Financial, Inc on behalf of Bernstein.
