J Sainsbury plc (the 'company')

On 25 November 2005 the company was notified that Lady Sainsbury (wife of Sir
Timothy Sainsbury) no longer has a notifiable interest in the company's issued
share capital, such interest now being below 3%.

The company was advised in November 2002 that Lady Sainsbury had become
entitled, through trusteeships, to a non-beneficial interest in existing
shareholdings of the company of 3% of the company's issued shares.
