Sainsbury's Supermarkets Limited announces an enhanced price guarantee 
on 1500 key lines


Sainsbury's Supermarkets Limited, J Sainsbury plc's UK food retailing
business, today announces that it will guarantee customers the lowest prices
on 1500 everyday items including 100 top brands, at a net cost of £20 million
in the current year, after supplier support. 

This initiative, supported by a personal letter from Dino Adriano, Group Chief
Executive, to every customer entering Sainsbury's stores during the next week,
highlights Sainsbury's commitment to offering customers value reassurance
while refusing to compromise on food quality to help cut prices.

Dino Adriano comments, 'It is getting harder for shoppers to know what to
believe about supermarket prices. At Sainsbury's we made a promise to our
customers years ago: to provide the highest quality food at the most
competitive prices.  That promise remains true today.'
