AGM STATEMENT
At today's Annual General Meeting of Savills plc, the international property
adviser, the following statement will be made by the Chairman, Richard Jewson:
'We have made a satisfactory start to 2004, with trading generally in line with
expectation, and in some cases ahead. Improvements in economic activity have
further boosted confidence in most of the markets in which we operate.
UK Commercial investment markets remain strong; however there is currently a
dearth of products coming onto the market which is slowing down transaction
volumes. There are signs that the Commercial leasing market in both Central
London and the regions is picking up. Residential markets continue to move ahead
and volumes of transactions are markedly above the same period last year, which
was a particularly weak market. Our Consultancy and Property Management
businesses continue to grow and perform well and Financial Services have made
another good start to the year.
In Asia, the Hong Kong market has bounced back from 2003 levels and transaction
volumes are up in the first quarter. European activity is consistent with 2003.
We are confident that the quality and breadth of our businesses will ensure that
we can capitalise on generally improving economic conditions throughout the
world and produce further growth.'
