AGM Statement and Portfolio Information
At the 19th Annual General Meeting of Henderson TR Pacific Investment Trust plc
held today in London, all resolutions put to shareholders were duly passed.
In a Statement to shareholders, Chairman David Robins highlighted a number of
changes made by the Board during the year. These included the appointment of
Andrew Beal as Portfolio Manager, negotiation of revised fee arrangements,
clarification of the Company's objective, adoption of the MSCI AC Asia ex-Japan
Index, which includes India, as the benchmark and the Company's first investment
in India.
Mr Robins added that the Board considered that the region continued to be well
placed to deliver attractive returns to investors.
Over the coming year the global economy should be supported by a peaking in US
interest rates and a moderation in the rate of increase in oil and commodity
prices. Stronger growth in Europe, Japan and emerging markets should compensate
for a moderate slowdown expected in the US. This is generally helpful to Asia's
export orientated economies and should support company earnings.
Headline stock valuations are in line with long term averages but continue to
look very attractive when adjusted for historically low levels of company debt
and more efficient use of capital.
Mr Robins concluded:
'We feel that the markets have yet to recognise fully the transformation in the
long term outlook for Asian economies and companies after nearly ten years of
broad and deep reform and restructuring following the crisis of the late 1990s.'
