                      Appointment of Non-Executive Director



Henderson TR Pacific Investment Trust plc, one of the largest Investment Trusts
specialising in the Far East excluding Japan and Australasia, announces the
appointment of Mr Struan Robertson as a Non-Executive director, with effect from
6 February 2004.


Mr Robertson, aged 54, a Mechanical Engineer, retired from BP in July 2000
following an international career where he held a number of senior posts. These
included Chairman of BP Asia Pacific, Chief Executive Trading International and
latterly Senior Vice President Technology and Marketing. He lived and worked in
Asia between 1989 and 1997.


Until January 2004 Mr Robertson was Group Chief Executive of the Wates Group
Limited and is a Non-Executive director of WS Atkins plc and Forth Ports plc. He
is also a past Deputy Chairman of the International Petroleum Exchange.
